Field notes / A few useful habits

Go prepared.
Stay curious.

A good outing leaves room for discovery. A little preparation helps you spend more of your day enjoying it.

01

Check the details at the source.

Before choosing a destination, read the land manager's current information. Confirm hours, entry rules, closures, permitted activities, and facilities. A saved photo or old trip report may not reflect today's conditions.

02

Plan for the people coming.

Talk about pace, comfort, access needs, and how much time everyone has. Choose an outing that works for the whole group. Agree on a meeting place and a realistic return time.

03

Pack for the actual day.

Check the forecast and conditions, then choose appropriate water, food, clothing, and supplies. Our planner is a starting checklist, not a complete safety or emergency guide. Adapt it to your destination and needs.

04

Be a considerate guest.

Follow posted rules, use designated paths, and give wildlife and other visitors space. Carry out your waste. Keep the place welcoming for whoever arrives after you.
